try reinstalling the xfs fontserver rpm with a --force option

a similar thing happed to me and I just did a
rpm -Uvh --force X* (just do a 'rpm --help' and get the options right)

make a backup of your /etc/xf86config file (just in case ;-))

Hello Everybody,

I am using Redhat Linux 6.1 and everything was just
fine. Unfortunately, the system was abruptly shut
down due to Power failure. After this, xwindows is
not coming up, though command mode is working fine as
before.

Whenever i type startx command, i get the following
error message.
_FontTransSocketUnixConnect: Can't connect; errno=111
failed to set default font path 'unix/:-1'
Fatal server error
Could not open default font 'fixed'
Connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server
shutdown)

I tried Xconfigurator and set the monitor settings
to the mininum (640 * 480). Also while shutdown the X
Font Server does not shutdown successfully.

I think there may be some problem with the X font
server itself. Please help urgently.

Hoping for a fast response.

Madhesh
