Let me be clear about this, actually my i430TX chipset
is not capable of UDMA66, I found this info on intel site and
on my mobo manual, I varified this in some rough manner
on windows and on linux ie by
I enabled DMA for HDD on w98/2k, but after reboot, DMA
option on system/device manager/HDD gets automatically
disabled/cleared. it should stay-selected/enabled if the
HDD/supporting chipsets supports DMA according MSHelp
In linux i enabled DMA through hdparm, and it crashed the
OS and I had to reboot, Well when I did this above for my
old quantum UDMA 33, 4GB HDD everything went fine!
both in w98/2k and Linux.
I still dont know whether this is the correct method to test
the UDMA66/ATA2, but it did give some answers
hardware Gurus/pantaas may shed some more light on this?
