Either:

1. Get the latest version of LILO which supports cylinders above 
1024. OR
2. Alternatively,create a partition /boot of size maybe 100 megs. 
That should solve your problems. 

It is _not_ a good idea to allot big chunks of disk space to Linux 
in one huge partition. Make smaller partitions like /root,/usr,/var,
etc..This way the chances of filesystem crashes are minimised in
the course of a power failure. You also have the option of mounting
partitions read only. etc
