there was something regarding this back in the thread, check the archives

get the latest version of lilo which is over come this 1024 cylynder prob.

or you can try doing a full reinstall (all os)
boot with any linux os, 
make 50 mb partitions for /boot below 1024 cylynders ( just around 6 GB)
if you plan for Win 95 make that partition first primary

then install linux as you wish, all distros of linux can share one swap
