I guess the "search" line is there in /etc/resolv.conf to search in a list
of domains first before trying to resolv the FQDN.
e.g. if I connect to machines in electrical dept. iitb, then I may put
"search ee.iitb.ernet.in" on the first line in resolv.conf. That way I
just have to say "telnet foo", and the resolver library in
glibc/libc/whatever on your box will first try to look up
"foo.ee.iitb.ernet.in" before trying to lookup "foo". Making things easier
to the user most of the time.
pn2.vsnl.net.in is probably of no use as it is a host FQDN.
