Well, well.....we all seem to have had the same problem with 6.2 cds....and
yes, there seems to be some problem with the agpgart module.. Here's how i
configured my intel ca810 box...
1. Install rh as ususal, and try configuring with Xconfigurator, or
xf86config, or XF86Setup...didn't work??? ..next step
2. Download I810Gtt-0_1-6_src_tar.gz & XFCom-i810-glibc2.1-1.0.0.tar.gz from
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel810/linuxsoftware.htm
3. Untar the above files into temporary folders by using tar -xvzf
<filename>, say in gtt and xfcom folders
4. Run the INSTALL script as root from the xfcom folder. This script copies
the XFCom_i810 server to /usr/X11R6/bin/ and copies docs etc (./INSTALL
to run it...u knew that right!!)
5. cd to the gtt folder, Type "make" and "make install" (u shud be root for
make install). Optionaly u could type "make testgart" to create tesgart.o,
which could be used to test if agpgart is working (after completion of
configuration of course)
6. Edit the XF86Config file (at /etc/X11/ ) as per
shanu's guide to reflect monitor conf and screen sections
(www.exocore.com/linux/i810) 7 set links to the XFCom_i810 server by typing
"ln -sf /usr/X11R6/bin/XFCom_i810 /etc/X11/X"
8. run X -probeonly and if u everything's fine startx and enjoy
9. optionally, run testgart.o from the gtt folder to check if agpgart is fine
For reference u could also check out
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel810/linuxinstal.htm
for the intel linux installation guide for i810s (yes intel hosts one!!!)
Of course u may want to download src rpms instead, that might also work fine.
This one worked for me after the gart allocation failure and I configured
coupla i810s on the same lines, so should work for u too...best of
luck.
Ack:
Thanks for the links to intel sites nick (in ur....oooooold mail...sorry dint
write earlier), btw i could get x up with 6.2 supplied 2.2.14 kernel itself
btw..this is not gauranteed to work or anything, and don't hold me responsible
if anything blows up. Let me know if u could get it working or otherwise. HTH
phew....
