what ajay possibly meant was gs. Its possible to use gs to write a
postscript file to a 'device' given the 'device' is recognised. like

gs -sDevice=<somedevice> -sOutputFile=foo.bar <inputfile>

gs comes with support for tiff, pdf,rgb all variants of pnm ie pgm,pbm..
