Hey man,
Since U already have a system U can test on, why don't U try changing the
ID of partition 3 to 85 or B, (not 5 - definitely U cannot have two ID 5
(or for that matter B or 85) partitions on the same HDD). Please report on
it if U were successfull... I know this is foolish, considering the error
message, but just a try... If it's OK with U, we can even do this
off-list... I also wanted to try out if LILO can be installed on an ID 85
partition since, if U come down to it, it IS a linux native partition.

You cannot change a partition into an extended one or vice versa
Delete it first.
