Hi,
For all of you who are feeling cramped up in shiny little SGI boxes
running prehistoric Irix, here's good news. SGI people at freeware.sgi.com
are really giving prompt replies to problems in installing freeware on
your SGI box. So if you feel choked and chained to a small blue (or green)
box you can still see bash-2.04 on the screen and invoke ls --color or the
psql prompt to ease your pain. For those who've never seen a SGI machine,
don't fret, Linux is far better than Irix (at least in terms of
userfriendliness, if not in number crunching or data access speeds). (I've
not measured the times but IFScompose of GIMP and bzip2 run faster on my
AMDK6II400/64MB/SuSE6.4 than on SGI's
O2/MIPS-R5000/(64bit,300MHz)/128MB/Irix6.5.)
Lucky stars li exists,
Indraneel
