For components, not for assembly. I doubt something somewhere is fitted in not enough
correct manner. I have to recheck it...

Yes. Exactly same Hard disk. Earlier it couldn't run DMA. On this sis board, I tried 
with
DMA on as well as off. In off mode make goes a bit more, but finally dumps... Anyway 
try
out with the cache

Don't know, I haven't seen the mobo manual. But I suppose overriding hardware defaults
shouldn't be that difficult. After all it's a signal and can be ingnored itf it's not
connected to a high priority pin. They must have taken care for that.
