No its not necessary.

This may be due to that either
(1) You have not specified the name server in ur /etc/resolv.conf file or
(2) Your name server is not working properly.
(3) You are not able to connect to your name server.
Check for the aboves, then i feel u will find the answer to ur problem -;)
