Not at all. Otherwise what's the use of a DNS anyway?? If u
specify any hosts in /etc/hosts then it is the one which is called (in
default configuration of /etc/host.conf)
If it does not work when you do not have the hosts in /etc/hosts
then ur DNS is not working properly.
