Hi all

I experienced strange problem.... on friday(evening so I was away from the list :-() )

NT on my machine was crashed. After typing 'dos' at lilo prompt, NT loader was not
coming up. IIRC, it crashed due to a power cut. Didn't
wake up since then.

So I took the CD to install it. Linux was working fine.

NT setup told me that it can not install NT when I chose repair NT installation. It
couldn't find one.
Reboot. Delete NT partition. recreate it. NT Setup is still confused.
Forget it. I am better off linux. Remove CD, reboot. Press enter at lilo prompt and
vow... an endless string of 00's.

I tried to change HDD modes thr. BIOS. Didn't help. I had experienced the problem once
when I plugged from linux preinstalled HDD from 486 to
Celeron 400.
Changing mode helped then. I still think that was not required in this case

Next reinstall linux as I don't have boot floppy. I don't believe in then. I mean I
believe in boot floppies but not in floppies.

But, even after custom install of RHL 6.2/PCQ March2K, it refused to boot. Same
behaviour continued.

At install time I was able to mount linux partition but could not ru lilo because I
didn't have /dev/hda on installtime system. How it
mounted /dev/hda2 is a mistery still. I didn't dare to use /temp/dev/hda though.

Anyway result was happy ending. Wiped out NT and linux partition. Did a fdisk/mbr form
a 95 boot disk.(Thanks to 486). Converted both to ext2
and did a full install. No worry for space.. :-) Though I lost custom compiled
software, it was lyx only. I forgot to back it up.

Can anybody explain what happened to lilo in first place and why RHL custom install
did not overwrite lilo. I chose MBR and linux as default.

 Bye
  Shridhar

Sorry for the long mail....
