I have a similar problem. though mine started some weeks after I upgraded to KDE 1.92.
I get a ppp daemon died(received SIGSEGV) error.
I figured out a workaround: first start the ppp daemon manually by /usr/sbin/pppd.
Then use kppp to connect.
This is not what should happen, and the workaround in not to my taste.
I have no idea why the bug occurs, it started unexpectedly, kppp with KDE 1.92 ran
smoothly for about two weeks, then this problem came up.
Any solutions known? The machine was shutdown properly, and only I know the root
password for that machine. (Its my home machine).
