Hi Shine:
This is the way we have it in our office. The Linux server is a PII 333
MHz with 64 MB although 32 MB RAM would suffice. The Linux box is also
configured as a proxy using squid. The NT is the PDC and authenticates all
users. The Linux mail server has a static IP address and is also the DNS
server. The mail clients used on Win95/98 machines are Outlook97 and the
pop3 server in outlook's profile is the Linux mail server (name or IP works
fine) and outlooks mail and address (.pab and .pst) files are on the
individual user's folder on the NT machine, which enables them to access
their mail from any client so long as their profile is created on it.
As for setting up the mail server itself, there is just one configuration
file "sendmail.cf" but it flies 4096 metres above my head ; ) Suggest you
do some heavy reading - "Sendmail" from O'reilly for instance or get
professional help.
Regards
Vasanth
