I have a 20 GB HDD and can't install linux because the disk druid won't
accept another partition and says "Boot partition too big" .

i went through the updated www.exocore.com/linux FAQ.

i found :
56. I always get the error message "Boot partition too big" while creating
partitions during installation.
This usually happens when LILO (The LInux LOader) is installed outside the
BIOS limit of 1024 cylinders. Create a small /boot partition within the 1st
1GB of your harddisk space and place LILO on it.
If you already have windows there, this is most probably not possible unless
you recreate the windows partition.

this is what my partition table looks like:

7GB --- Windows --- FAT32

3GB --- Backup --- FAT32

3 GB --- MP3 --- FAT32

i want to assign

128 MB to swap // can i have more?

50 to /boot

300 to /home

the rest to /

(Pease advise me on my partition s too.)

well what do i do about this? can i use Partition Magic to solve this
problem? if so how should i rearrange my partition table?

I also found this :

" 56a. I heard there is a new version of LILO out which supports hard disks
>1024 cylinders? Can i use it?
You heard right!
The new version of LILO (21.5.0 or later) can work with very large hard
disks if the BIOS supports EDD packet call extensions to the int 0x13
interface. The BIOS's found on Most new PC's do seem to be compatible with
this requirement.

The source code is available here:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/boot/lilo/ "

Well how do i compile the source code? i'm a newbie. will it be simple? i
can give it a try perhaps.

Thanks in advance, Sukrit.D.
