mutt is the way to go. Forget about GUI email clients. I was also once going after
them. None of them can compete with mutt. Suresh was instrumental in convincing me in
using mutt :-)
I am using mutt for the last 8 months on Linux.
Give it a try. You will surely not look back to GUI.
