Hi,
>From the boot time messages I was getting ( which I
also included in my last post on this topic ) I figured
out that the problem was most probably due to
the fact that my system mounted the root file system
in read only mode.
Consequently, I gave the following parameter at LILO
boot prompt :
LILO : Linux rw
( i.e., I told LILO to load Linux root file system
in read / write mode.
This worked !!
I was able to boot into Linux and do the usual work.

BUT, in order to boot, now I have to give the 'rw'
parameter, otherwise I get the same old problem.

Besides, even if I give the 'rw' parameter at LILO
prompt, the boot process waits forever after giving
the following message :
_______________________________________
Mounting proc filesystem [OK]
Configuring Kernel Parameters [OK]
<Cursor keeps blinking here>
_______________________________________

Booting continues only after I press Ctrl-C.

But *most importantly* , the fact that is disturbing me is
that at every boot the system mounts the root fs two times
thus :
___________________________________________
VFS : Mounted root (ext2 filesystem ).
autodetecting RAID arrays
autorun . . .
. . . autorun DONE.
VFS : Mounted root (ext2 filesystem).
change_root : old root has d_count = 1.
Trying to unmount old root . . . okay

*Can anyone tell me WHAT is actually happening.*
