I need help in using my modem.
I have got a Laptop (Sony VAIO F250) brought from US.
It has an internal modem as well as I have a PCMCIA modem.
When I dial with the modem (PCMCIA, Cirrus logic), initially
it used to give "NO DIALTONE". I read the modem manual and
tried the ATX1 option using minicom, it says "NO CARRIER".
I have also checked whether it is really dialing out. After I dial out
if I check the tone on the phone line (by listening
to the line from the other phone attached parallel to the
modem) I see that I still have the dial tone and the modem
hasn't dialed at all.
Also to check that the there is really a carrier, I have
dialed to my ISP from my phone and heard and confirmed that
there is really a modem on the other side.
For the record, it was being used in US and both
modems were working fine there.
I have already searched the linux-india mailing archives
and haven't found this problem being addressed.
If any of you have solved this problem please shed some light.
If you have any other mailing list where my question is more
suited, I would be glad to know.
