To clarify, this service.switch file makes sure that your sendmail doesn't
waste time doing a DNS lookup on the domains you are sending to, when all you
are doing is passing it on to a smarthost for further delivery (and the
smarthost will anyway repeat the DNS lookups before sending it on).

It saves a _lot_ of online time - try replying to a couple of dozen mails when
offline and then running sendmail -q after dialing in - first without and then
with the service.switch file.

Further, note the quoting style here - `' (backtick <that thing below the
tilde>  and single quote).
