DHCP addresses are "leased" to the client for a configurable duration of time.
DHCP leases for cablemodems / DSL lines are typically assigned on quite long
leases (anywhere between three to seven days, sometimes).  So, your IP remains
"reasonably static".

If you bring up any kind of box on a DSL line, lock it down securely or you'll
likely find your box will get h4x0r3d in no time at all (_dont_ put a default
redhat 6.2 install there).
