[LIH] i810 sound configuration

hi, 

i have been trying to configure the sound intel i810 on my friend's pc
but failed.. alsa configures and there r no errors received while
configuring.. everything goes smoothly.. when i try to open the aumix it
gives an error. 

the foll. are the steps that i followed .. pls correct me if i am
wrong..

downloaded latest alsa driver
tar -Ixvf <alsa-driver*>
cd <alsa-driver*>
./configure --with-card=intel8x0
make install
./snddevices..

pls help..
