see attached. you will have to reconfigure this to support ppp etc (I'm using
this on a LAN, and I dont need ppp support). i've also compiled out support
for a lot of network cards that are not used in our lan, and for other devices.
however, this kernel's been working quite ok (though there's a lousy bug in my
card - a via-rhine, that causes my network connectivity to go down the drain
every once in a while with the error "eth0:card reports no response" - issuing
a /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart cures the problem till it recurs again)

gunzip and copy to your /usr/src/linux as .config (do a make mrproper / make
distclean first to remove any old junk you have left from previous compiles)
# make oldconfig <== uses the same config file
# make menuconfig / make xconfig (to reconfigure this config file)
