The password in the /etc/shadow is encrypted, which no one apart from the root can
read .

but how root will decrypt it to get the real password
(condition is i don't want to change the encrypted passsword though it is the easiest
way ) is there any decryptor available

Well there are actually two questions here. And I try to answer them.

1)If you forget root password, you can try 'linux single' at lilo prompt. That will
drop you to root shell unless you have put restricted/password in lilo, being over
paranoid. ...:-))
2)The 'x' in /etc/passwd actually indicates that the encrypted password is not stored
in /etc/passwd but it's in /etc/shadow. It's called shadow passwords. And if you
notice nobody can even
read the file except root.

It prevents people reading password from /etc/passwd and try cracking them all along.
