Install a newsreader like slrn
[plenty of howtos on setting up slrn to your taste ... search google]
Get yourself an account at some good nntp server like news.cis.dfn.de (register
at http://news.cis.dfn.de first). If you are a vsnl user you have access to
news.vsnl.net.in as well
As for summaries, there are other places you can get these - www.cm.nu for example
