I prefer newssearch.pilum.net - you can query the db there to see which
news servers carry the newsgroups you want. Plus, there are several
servers which allow read-only access - you _cant_ post through them.
My personal favorite is news.cis.dfn.de (register online at
http://news.cis.dfn.de to get a login and password). Its got a huge
selection of (non binary) newsgroups, including the comp.* and news.*
hierarchies.
