couldnt look up the error code as I am not on linux. Strangely the pppd
man pages on the net dont seem to have the error/exit codes. But if my
memory serves me well, the list of error codes in the man page of my box (
rhl 6.2) wasnt that long to reach 242.
What does your man page say.

Sukrit, thanks for this, I had been resorting to brute forcing more lcp
sends, to give the server enough time. This is definetely better.

tell you what, connect manually i.e through minicom or kppp to see what
exactly is happening. Maybe that will help, and look up what 242 means.
( 42 is an altogether different ball game ;) BTW keep a "debug" in your
/etc/ppp/optons or ...ppp/peers/wvdial.
