later I fitted the same hdd to a 440LX/PIII550 and allocated this way
2 GB /dev/hda as / (root)
256 MB /dev/hda5 as swap
did the installation quite smoothly, from the same PCQ RHL CD, with the
same 52x CDROM drive.  
once installation was complete, i made 2 Gig /dev/hda6 as /home 
(moved contents to here before mounting and adding in fstab)
created another 2gig /dev/hda7 and mounted it at /home/squid
made a link from /var/squid to /home/squid and made the swap here
in the rest of 10g, we put Win2k Pro.
