to upgrade using patched you have to apply all the patches that have been
release since in the order that they were released.
untar 2.4.0
apply 2.4.1 patch
apply 2.4.2 patch
so if you already have the 2.4.0 sources with the 2.4.1 patches applied
all you have to do is apply the 2.4.2 patch.
