Subject: Re: [LIH] Network Card
|Run modprobe for all the network drivers available something or the
|other will get installed. Mind you this works in most cases but is not
|failsafe. For setting the ipaddress etc use ifconfig. I would suggest
Yes, I did it with a perl script. You have to add the route also.
It works ok if I know the card and the module name.
|reading the man pages for modprobe and ifconfig. Ofcourse you might have
|to run depmod -a if you havent done before running modprobe.
The problem is modprobe gives different output for different card. It's
pretty difficult to pre judge on unknown card.
|
|All this is assuming you have the right drivers for whatever card is
|installed on that machine and also that it is not mistaken for something
|else which might have been modprobed earlier.you could ofcourse use
|kudzu which comes with RedHat but I am not sure how it works - maybe it
|is written in python (as is most of RedHat's administrative tools) - in
|that case you would be able to see it's code too...
Kudzu may detect the card, but associating that with module and checking
success or failure of modprobe is unpredictable.
I think I will have to hack install script from one of the distribution.
