[LIH] unable to install lilo or grub on hda

Hi!

I'm unable to get either lilo or grub to boot off hda .. both work fine
from floppy or using linload from dos.

under lilo I see a series of 02 s and under grub the whole screen floods
and scrolls with grub.

I really like the grub interface it's definitely a LOT better than lilo.
(more bells and whistles... and colors !! ;-)

Any pointers on what could be the problem ?
