Get DDR if you can afford that. SDRAM should be perfectly fine but DDR is a
performance boost....

If possible make that Seagate/Quantum/IBM. AFAIK, samsung was never popular for

Almost all of them are fine. I recommend Yamaha Mercury. I have that one and
rocks under ALSA.(Though I use Sis on board regularly...)

That's partially true. Not many chipsets are available for Athlon. But VIA/ASUS
are definitely available plus AMD's own chipset is also available. AFAIK they
don't make much performance difference for ordinary tasks. Gaming and multimedia
editing not included in that.
Get DDR and a real fast IDE disk is my recommendation....
