Subject: [LIH] Want PC config

You are right I also have had problems with hardware guys who knew nothing
about linux, but mind you THERE ARE guys out there who know what they are
selling and also about Linux compatibility.

> AMD Athlon 1G
> M'board ASUS A7V (what model?)

Good choice but try getting ur hands on the A7V rather than the A7VPro. the
former is expensive but supports ATA100

But also do consider mainboards from other vendors. For more info check out
the mainboard guide at http://www.tomshardware.com

> 128M Symtronics SDRAM (or should i get RDRAM ?)

Try getting RAM from corsair or kingston or at least hyundai, it's expensive
than simtronics but you won't have problems if you overclock and also your
system is gonna be slightly faster and stable.RDRAM is not considered as
good value and also it's performance is a matter of
opinion.(http://www.tomshardware.com has a *lovely* article on it.)DDR is a
good option if performance is what you need but i don't think the A7V
supports it.

> Hard Disk 20G Samsung (Or is there any lin compatible
> 40G model)

try Seagate or Quantum or IBM.samsung is good value for money but
performance is not as good as the Seagate or others.

Try something from nvidia they have the best support under linux. If you can
afford, go in for the GeForce based cards.

> ? Sound Card

Most of the soundcards work in any case so that shouldn't be a problem.

VIA chipset based boards are quite good and generally preffered.but I donot
know about AMD chipset based boards.
