I think that a claim that the distribution fails - is a rather strong
statement. I have configured sound and X on an i810 rather trivially. Just
because your hardware isn't supported out of the box doesn't mean that the
distribution lacks... Maybe you just need to put in more work on getting it
to work... :)
The newness of a distribution really doesn't spell it's worth. After all it's
mostly built off things you can find on the net and configure yourself! So no
matter what distribution you're using, a little bit of hacking, and I'm sure
you can get most things to run rather well on linux.

p.s: Rgd configuring sound and X on an i810, look on the net. Do a google
search. They're lots of pointers to get it to work - you just need to look!
