going by past trends, 7.1 will definately be good, RH x.1/x.2 are
usually better then x.0, this is what i have heard and read, not
speaking from my own experience.

welcome to the wonderful world of linux, fellow newbie, what were the
problems you faced ? I haven't come across any problem that could not be
solved on this mailing list.
My personal experience with Mandrake 7.2 is very good, 'cept that i
couldn't find wvdial so i installed that from RH6.2 cd. On board sound
and video of my 815e mobo were both supported out of the box by mandrake
7.2.
