|possible to log in as root thru remote access, perhaps with telnet/ssh/scp
|etc. ? With even changing the permissions, etc. ?

There are number of ways root business can be accomplished from with su and
sudo,
And you still insist on remote root login, then change /etc/securetty to
reflect the device.
