Are u running kppp from an xterm ?

This will happen if u try to su in xterm and than type kppp. Directly run
kppp from K-Menu->Internet->Internet Dialer :-)

Use wvdial. If it is not installed on your system install it from the
Linux CD. If u are using RH than wvdial is there on the CD. However
mandrake does not come with one, but u can use RH wvdial.rpm on Mandrake.

at command prompt type 

$wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Than change username, password, ph. no. in wvdial.conf and run wvdial to
get connected from command mode.
