Your modem connect speed is the speed at whch your modem talks to your
serial port. It might seem odd, but reducing this speed will actually
speed up your net experience. (Simply because your modem will not have
to do any compression/decompression, and since the other end will be
rate-limited to that speed, no compression/decompression issues there
either. I know this should be done in hardware and theoretically
shouldn't affect anything, but it does).
