I'd say Mandrake is a distro for a person who's going from windows to 
Linux. It has a lot of apps packed on the CDs and a click-and-do way 
of doing things, which a windows-linux user will find convinient and 
easy to adapt to. SuSE is good too, but it has its weird file 
arrangement structure.

So, I'd say:
Mandrake-->Debian-->Slackware
