RPMs are cpio archives, with extra header information that the rpm
program understands. I was talking about a program that uses the
rpmlib package (it has got C, perl and python interfaces, the last
time I checked) to adjust things like dependencies, provides, triggers
and so on, maybe *both* in the rpm file and the database. This would
beat the purpose of the rpm software, but power users do find software
like rpm occassionally hindering their work. ;-)
