Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, I'm already doing
all what you have suggested but i'm unable to get my
i810 to work under linux 2.4.5 which works fine under
redhat 6.2. 
Basically I want to get my motorola internal SM56
(which works well under rh 7) modem to work under rh
6.2. You might have guessed that I don't have red hat
7.0. This is why I had d/l a newer kernel and a new
rpm.
