already enabled in ntsysv.

output of /etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm start   is as follows:

gpm: oops() invoked from gpm.c (958)
/dev/mouse : No such device.

As I said earlier,   there is a /dev/mouse  that points to /dev/ttyS0 (which
is the correct port).

output of /etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm status   is as follows

gpm dead but subsys locked.

Also, I get the following line during boot up:

Starting console mouse services                (OK)
gpm: oops() invoked from gpm.c (958)


>  run mouseconfig as root if necessary

did that too, using different protocols but no luck.

as Isaid, gpm starts up and works quite well under suse.
