Assuming you have a relatively new PC and that you have a Segate hard
disk it is possible your hard disk is about to die on you. Ofcourse it
is also possible that your cable is faulty or the IDE controller is
flaky. Let us know what dmesg says about your hard disk and how old is
your hard disk and motherboard.
Reminds me anybody ever heard anything from Seagate recently ??? I had
at one point of time receieved a nice email from a Seagate customer
support saying how great they were but the moment I dumped the hard disk
info for three failed hard disk to him he stopped replying.
