If you've got a stable, working, 6.2 install then stick with that. I'd suggest
that you apply all the relevant updates.This is on the principal of "If it ain't
broke...etc"

If you have to start fresh, then I don't see any reason _not_ to use RH 7.1. The
gcc issues, in practice, do not make as much a difference as portrayed. We've
been running 7.1 and 7.0.9 for several months internally and are now comfortable
enough to start deploying it for clients.

Frankly, I'd suggest that you see for yourself. If it's at all possible, install
7.1 on a sandbox server. Throw everything you've got at it, and if you're
satisfied then use it -- or not. ;-)
