Dear Suresh/Shridhar/Vijay Deval and of course all other Linux Gurus,
I did try wvdial today morning.I did make and make install steps sucessfully
to create the wvdialconf utility.
Then when I gave wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf 2>wverror.txt
It said that the modem can not be detected. It may be in use by other
program.Can you try using setserial?
For more questions it asked me to write to www.worldvisions.ca
I would like to tell you that previosly i tweaked around with ppp I mean
resolv.conf and ppp.options but I did not write the chat script as per the
text book.Next I tried setting up the modem using minicom which failed.I saved
the seeting in file df1(I do not know what this df1 is)As I do not know the
correct values for the dial strings and init strings. So you sugessted me to
use wvdial.
Do let me know how I should reset my modem?Should I rerun minicom and see if I
can reset the configuration for my modem. If you want I can send you the error
log but not now as I have Linux on my home PC.
Do send in your comments at the earliest.
Regards,
Prasad

Where can you get it? Download it from the wvdial site (google should get
it). If not, take any deadrat CD which has the wvdial rpm.
# rpm2tgz wvdial.rpm
# mv wvdial.tgz /
# tar -zxvf wvdial.tgz
I'm using a wvdial extracted in this very manner on slackware ... till I
shifted to an umm.... amputated version of Mandrake yesterday (as slackware
is getting a bit old as distros go, and I dont have the bandwidth at home to
keep current with slackware current, even with Nick Hill's excellent
autosource tool.
I can't find where it is located, so I have put it up for download at
http://www.hserus.net/autosource-0.1.tar.gz
