Thanks a lot , it has cleared some of my basic doubts ,on the fly !
When we are on it, let me ask this :
Can we boot to shell in one console with root access and X in another virtual
console with xyz-user access after rebooting itself . It is for testing
mail-traffic etc. from one user (X based )  to another ( shell based ). (
Being new, doing lots of experiments in MUAs, ftps, and telnets. )
Presently I start in X, then using X-term, Though I prefer to work in shell.
