getaddrinfo is a network address and service translation function.
Quoted from the manpage:

It is possible that the connection failed and hence no mail was
downloaded. Why the connection failed is unclear from the messages... the
status=2 seems to indicate a some sort of return value... but generally
error values are -ve.
Since this is +ve, the fetchmail source might give you a clue.
