You definitely need to start X server for X apps ... but
once in X, you can fire any of the terms like xterm, rxvt
eterm. kterm whatever to do ALL console jobs, inclusive
of jobs needing su to root privileges.

There is actually no need. There are virtual windows in
all WMs, in fvwm2 six, in kde four, in blackbox as many
as needed. Go to another virtual window and start some
other app ... and go back to the former when needed.

You have enough ... If memory is your concern stick to
less reource hungry WMs like fvwm2, icewm or blackbox ..
avoid bloats like kde and gnome. Adding second instance
of "X" will gobble about 3-5 mb, depending upon your WM.
What is critical here is not the WM but the apps. Some
apps like netscape and StarOffice are real beasts !

Sub : Contents of .deb file [#1] LOST #044

To know the contents of a deb file, if you have dpkg installed
fire Midnight Commander (mc) ... Just press enter on the .deb
file in mc and you have all the contents of the .deb file ...
Then you can copy all the stuff from one pane to another in
some directory. Same thing applies to .tar.gz and rpm files ..
provided rpm, tar and gzip are installed.
