xwrapper is just a setuid wrapper over your X. The 3.3.* needed to be
setuid root. X.4.* does not. You can change the soft link to point to
X.4.* server. 

 You have to setup the XF86Config-4, which is actually almost the same as
the old one ( except it has tons and tons of alternative mode lines ). You
should be up and running with X in no time
