Check another dealer. Preferably - get a technician from a rival shop and
have him check your machine before your own eyes. The technicians from
shops are usually competent, honest and underpaid people. Approach one
personally - your money will go directly to him.

Once a lizard got into the cabinet of my machine and pissed on the ram
chip. Luckily the thing didn't short - failed at the init sys ram test.
The whole machine was torn apart, parts cleaned, checked and reinstalled.
Cost = 400 bucks.

And as for the SMPS, you should be able to find a replacement for this
exorbitant piece. I don't think there would be anything hardcoded about
the voltages the SMPS supplied to the chip or mobo. :-) Try Eagle. I have
used one for quite some time now.
